Just a few days after celebrating her 10th birthday, Princess Charlotte joined the royal family for historic festivities at Buckingham Palace.
The young princess and her brothers, Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 7, joined their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, to watch a military procession and a patriotic flypast on Monday, May 5.
Charlotte and Kate shared a heartwarming display of mother-daughter bonding during the outing, their closeness shining through as they marked the milestone together.

The Princess of Wales was also photographed reaching out to readjust Charlotte’s hair, which she wore with her favored long braid.
Along with the Wales family, other royals in attendance included King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince Edward, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence and Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent.
The displays kicked off a week of events commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 8, marking the anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe in 1945.

The King, Prince William, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Sir Timothy Laurence all wore military dress for the event, during which they also met with World War II veterans. The royal family’s official social media account shared several posts commemorating the occasion and emphasizing the significance of the week’s festivities.
“We remember and pay tribute to all those who served during the Second World War,” read one post, which included multiple pictures of the royal family. “The King and Queen, alongside other Members of the Royal Family, joined extraordinary veterans (@RoyalBritishLegion) on the Queen Victoria Memorial outside Buckingham Palace to observe military units processing down The Mall.”
Another tribute featured a side-by-side picture of the current royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, alongside a flashback to the first VE Day, in 1945.

Following festive flypast, the royals retreated back into the palace. Prince George joined his parents for a tea party hosted by the King and Queen for veterans and members of the World War II generation. As second in line to the throne, it was a big move for the young royal.
The royal family will be out and about for a series of meaningful events throughout the week, leading up to the 80th anniversary of VE Day. On May 8, William and Kate are expected at a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey highlighting the sacrifice of the World War II generation.
Another moment captured by the cameras touched the hearts of fans worldwide. It was when Princess Kate reached out to gently readjust Princess Charlotte’s hair, which she wore in her favorite long braid. This small, tender gesture was not just a mother’s care for her daughter, but also a profoundly symbolic act. It showed that no matter her exalted position, Kate is an ordinary mother who always wants to protect and nurture her child, and it embodied the closeness and warmth that the Royal Family is working to build.
The VE Day celebration was not only an opportunity for the Royal Family to appear in public but also a chance for them to honor tradition and connect with the nation’s proud history. King Charles, Prince William, Princess Anne, and other male members wore military dress, a way to pay respect to the soldiers who sacrificed for peace. Afterward, they had the chance to meet and talk with World War II veterans, listening to their stories and memories of a bygone era. This was a meaningful act, affirming the Royal Family’s role in preserving and passing on history to future generations.
Even on their official social media accounts, the royals expressed their reverence for history in a moving way. One post featured a side-by-side picture of the current family on the balcony, alongside a faded, sepia-toned photo of the first VE Day celebration in 1945. In the vintage photo stood then-Princess Elizabeth in her own military uniform, with her father, King George VI, her mother, Queen Elizabeth, and her sister, Princess Margaret. This comparison not only showed a visual parallel but also underscored the unbroken continuity of the monarchy, from one great reign to the next, through all the ups and downs of history.
The future of the monarchy was clearly on display through the actions of the younger generation. After the flypast, Prince George joined his parents for a tea party hosted by the King and Queen for veterans and members of the World War II generation. This was a significant step for the young royal, who is gradually being prepared for his future role. His exposure to these real-life figures and their historical stories will help him better understand his responsibility to the nation and its traditions.
Overall, the 80th anniversary of VE Day was not just a formal ceremony but a heartwarming story about a family. The moments shared by Prince William and Princess Kate with their children revealed a royal image that is relatable, modern, and full of affection. It was a perfect blend of honoring the past and stepping confidently into the future, with love as their guiding light. With young heirs like Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, the future of the British monarchy seems secure, not just by birthright, but by their inherent grace, warmth, and the family bond that promises a next reign as brilliant and enduring as those that came before.
